In sun-kissed Emerald Bay, the vigorous Lieutenant Mitch Buchannon and Baywatch, his elite team of hand-picked and perfectly tanned lifeguards, protect the bay, keeping both sunbathers and beach lovers safe. However, this summer, two new eager trainees will join the demanding life-saving program, as well as an insubordinate former Olympic swimmer, who are all called to prove their worth on the lifeguard towers just on time when a new synthetic street drug begins to infest the Emerald Bay: the flakka. Without a doubt, this calls for some serious undercover teamwork action, as the badgeless heroes in spandex comb the beach for shady newcomers and nefarious entrepreneurs with hidden agendas of their own. Can Mitch's band save the bay?

I am forty-six years old and I'll be one of the first decry Hollywood'sdescent into 'nothing but potty humor' notions of what passes forcomedy these days. Also, having been seventeen when the show firstaired I can tell you that the gratuitous shots of bouncing breasts inslow motion we're not nearly as prevalent as people remember, in whatlittle I saw of it. That said, I am absolutely dumbfounded by thenegative reviews and poor opening of this film! I can't help but wonderwhat in the world people were expecting. To be fair, I may have watchedabout five episodes of the TV show when it was on, but my assumptionwas that the show was about a group of lifeguards getting intosituations and capers well outside the purview of a group oflifeguards. For me, this movie was practically perfect at being what itset out to be. It never tried to take itself too seriously, yet wasonly just campy enough to let the audience know that. I thoughteveryone performed well in their given roles, the jokes were hilariousand no more excessive than what I would expect the 2017, rated 'R' filmversion to pull off. At times I even felt like I was in the middle of aseasons long binge on Netflix. This movie did a decent job of makingthe outlandish 'not-so-mysterious mystery' somewhat believable and Ieven half-expected a scene near the end with Priyanka Chopra's villainsaying, 'And I would have gotten away with it if it weren't for youmeddling lifeguards and your bigger, stronger Hasselhoff!' Now as adisclaimer, this was the first 'R' rated movie I took my teen-aged sonto see so I thought perhaps my laugh meter was ratcheted up, but thetheater that was 85% full at 9:20PM on a Sunday night all seemed to belaughing as hard as we were. I think perhaps people were just upsetwith this film for having not enough naked women and sexual situations,or contrarily didn't want their Baywatchers using foul language andmaking penis jokes? I don't know. I say go see this movie with zeroexpectations, let it be what it is, don't be a prude, and you willlaugh a lot and have a good time!

I had a really great time watching this movie and I am quite glad I chose it over the Pirates of the Caribbean. There are lots of nice jokes and contrary to my initial thoughts, there are very few nude scenes. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Effron are both great leads and they inarguably take part in all the funny scenes of the movie.
I have to admit that I was quite cautious before going to see the movie due to all the negative reviews and I finally came to a conclusion about all the people who believe that every movie should be reviewed as a potential Oscar nominee! Not all movies have to be "serious" and dramatic. I know most of the reviewers out there were expecting to see something like "The Pianist" when they bought tickets for "Baywatch" and that is the reason why this movie let them down. My advice is to watch movies that make you have a nice time (Baywatch is one of them alongside Piranha 3D, American Pie). Not all movies are filmed in order to become Oscar Nominees! Many of them are made with the goal of making the viewers have a great time! Please take that into account the next time you are criticizing a movie!

For what it is worth, it is a good movie. Plenty of decent jokes. Some vulgar jokes but very few. Some awkward jokes as well. I did enjoy it and so will you. Just a genuine movie for good laughs. The sense of humor this movie calls for is not for everyone. Still, you can enjoy this movie and I hope you do. It will not become one of your classic movies though; it is not that kind of humor at all.
